Hampshire and Isle of Wight Saliva Testing Programme

Knowing who has COVID-19 is vital to stopping its spread.

Large-scale weekly testing can help to break chains of transmission by identifying people who have the virus but do not have any symptoms.

Following a successful pilot in Southampton involving four local schools and the University of Southampton, this programme is now delivering weekly testing in organisations across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Funded by the UK government and led by University Hospital Southampton (UHS), the programme uses simple, non-invasive saliva collection, with results delivered to participating schools, colleges and universities within 24-48 hours.

Samples are processed at a purpose-built facility in Southampton, with capacity to process thousands every day.
